Was delighted to see the latest issue of Fiddler’s Green land on the doorstep, with cover art by yours truly. Perfect summertime reading for “tea-drinking anarchists, convivial conjurors & closeted optimists”. Comes with a free flexi ancestor spell also! Thanks to Clint for asking me to contribute - happy to be part of the Peculiar Parish!
Thanks to my good friend & neighbour Mac who agreed to be the model for this piece - and also for introducing me to the existence of Lisnabreeny Rath ("Fort of The Fairy Palace") just up the road. This hill fort set on a vantage point overlooking Belfast city seemed the perfect spot to shoot some reference (whilst of course taking care not to offend the "good folk" who dwell there).
The fiddle player has a particularly strong connection to the Otherworld in Irish folklore, with noted fiddlers even in recent times attributing their musical prowess to interactions with non-human entities, or attendance at "fairy weddings". The Devil himself also takes the form of a fiddler in many folk tales worldwide.
*I also ended up flipping the reference and making the fiddler left handed in the final illustration - mainly as a design necessity but it seemed appropriate in the end as left-handedness was another trait often associated with witches, changelings and a general "otherness".
A little while back I did an interview with fellow artist Brian Uhl about various inspirations and the creative process in general. The full interview is now online via the good folks over at Cvlt Nation.
Thanks to both Brian Uhl & Cvlt Nation for the support!
Samhain greetings to all...tonight, the veil is thin! New work - “Guiding Light” (print edition in the works...more details soon) #illustration #stagandserpent #samhain
Happy to announce that my friends in Lankum (formerly Lynched) have their new album "Between The Earth And Sky" done & dusted and will be seeing release via Rough Trade Records in October 27th. Once again I had the honour of performing art & design duties for these folk miscreants. Be sure to catch them live performing if you can as they take to the road again around the UK & Ireland in the coming weeks (link to their site below).
"Lankum are a Dublin four-piece who combine distinctive four-part vocal harmonies with arrangements of uilleann pipes, concertina, accordion, fiddle and guitar. Their repertoire spans humorous Dublin music-hall ditties and street-songs, classic ballads from the Traveller tradition, traditional Irish and American dance tunes, and their own original material. The band comprises of brothers Ian and Daragh Lynch along with Cormac MacDiarmada and Radie Peat. When not on tour Ian lectures in Irish Folklore and musical traditions in University College Dublin, while Cormac and Radie grew up as champion traditional players, on the fiddle and concertina, respectively. Yet Lankum are not purely trad themselves, in the same way The Pogues were more urban music. Rough-hewn and raw, they’re the edgiest thing in Dublin right now. Although an acoustic group whose repertoire is fundamentally based on traditional song, influenced by legends such as Frank Harte, Planxty, The Dubliners and the Watersons, subtle traces of the group’s collective influences can be detected, ranging from American old-timey music to krautrock and drone"

I'm happy to have some work (along with many other fine artists and writers) in this sumptuously produced tome coming soon from Anathema Publishing. Pre-orders are now live!
Some details below (via Anathema Publishing) :
[PRE-ORDERS now OPENED!]
* Strictly Limited to 393 copies, as this Book shall never be re-printed ever again.
** Launch is scheduled for November 1st, 2016.
Note that this is THE definitive and Deluxe Edition of PILLARS Volume 1.
(Being the Anthological Edition of the inceptive trilogy of PILLARS occult periodical journal. Be it: Issue.1 Psychopompos, Issue.2 The Golden Eitr and Issue.3 The Ebon Kteis. Curated, assembled and edited by G. McCaughry via Anathema Publishing.)
It has been a long time coming, and a personal dream of mine, to finally be able to re-publish the material that made PILLARS journals great from the get-go. Underlining once and for all, how much our esteemed Contributors, were paramount to the ongoing evolution of Anathema Publishing's vision. Compiled under various over-arching themes, that, however seemingly cryptic at times, do share common threads, exuding definite passion & devotion for the Mystery Arte.
The end result is a book overflowing with potent texts, crucial information, inspirational works, gorgeous art pieces, and so much craft featured therein (Articles, Poems, Incantations, Magickal Procedures, Academic Studies, Seals, Sigils, full page illustrations, et cetera)! All beautifully bound in a thick, slightly oversized, Hardcover book of utmost quality, and a most stunning presentation design by artist José Gabriel Alegría Saboga.
It has been decided that there shall be but only one official iteration of this Anthology, for the sole logical reason that the customary 'Standard' editions of PILLARS periodical, were the ones published a few years ago (which are all sold-out by now), and that 'Perichoresis' in itself, IS the Deluxe edition of those three journals combined.

"The Morrígan", the "phantom queen" of Irish myth. A sovereignty goddess associated with fate, prophecy and a harbinger of death in battle. As battle crow she circles the fray and haunts the monoliths erected in the wake of those who have fallen.
Like many pre-Christian, Irish figures from mythology the Morrígan is often an ambiguous figure, sometimes comprising a threefold nature that changes over time and location. I have chosen to depict her here in singular form.
"The Morrígan" will be available as a limited edition screenprint from Indonesian art collective Villains : https://www.facebook.com/w0rld53nd/. Printing by Monolith Press.
It is part of the upcoming "Goddess" artist series which goes live on 1st August on www.worldsend.com for Asia & Australia customers.
American & European customers should check out posters&toys.com for better shipping rates.
Many thanks to Villains and Arik Roper for the invitation!
The Wild Hunt, "a daily news journal dedicated to serving the Pagan, Heathen and Polytheist communities worldwide" kindly asked me some questions regarding magic, art and future plans for Stag & Serpent.
The interview can be found here.
GATHERING is now on sale via my webstore. I'm happy to finally release this artwork as a limited edition screen print. 2 editions (1 regular, 1 variant) / 35 x 19".
"Gathering" is a work inspired by Irish folklore and historical descriptions of magical practitioners or "cunning folk".
The new SubRosa album is coming later this summer via Profound Lore Records. I was happy to handle design & illustration duties once again. I'll post up a more detailed overview of the whole design after it sees release on August 26th.
I had the pleasure of Stag & Serpent being charged with illustration and design duties on the latest Fyrnask release which has just seen the light of day via Van Records. Conceptually, this was a very interesting package to work and I was determined to try and capture something of both the beauty and the darkness inherent in the music.
